After this dark winter and year we have had, both literally and metaphorically, lots of people have been feeling down. What we all need is COLOR!
Summer is here and I will be giving you tips on how to include colorful pieces into your daily rotation of summer clothes.
- Start with a neutral basic piece and add a pop of color.
Start by either wearing a neutral top or bottom, and then add the colourful piece on the bottom or top. Personally I might wear either a black or white skirt with a hot pink top. A colourful pop in your outfit can really boost the look and the whole vibe you feel that day.
- Choose a color that you know you love and that looks good with your complexion.
For me, I love royal blue and hot pink. The cool tones in my face make these colours stand out. I normally find myself searching for those tones when it comes to summer outfits. To see whether a color works on you, look at the undertones in your skin. Take this skin quiz and it will give you colors that will look good on you!
- Try a colorful lip or eye with a basic outfit.
If you are wearing an all white or all black outfit, try spicing up your makeup and outfit with a pop on your lips or eye. Don’t be afraid of color; it actually can make you happier. According to body and soul.com: “When the eye takes in bright, bold hues like pink, red and green it triggers the release of dopamine, a powerful hormone that makes you feel happier.” Who wouldn’t want that?
When I was in 8th grade I started wearing blue eyeliner to make my blue eyes pop. Maybe not the best for me ‘cause I was 13, but we all learn. I have always been adventurous with color in my makeup. I have had some pretty interesting looks… like purple eyeshadow all over the lid with a red gloss and pink blush….. Maybe not. But if you wear a red, orange or pink lip with a neutral eye, or a little bit of colourful liner or eyeshadow, you can really stand out!
- Add colourful shoes.
I love shoes. I love colorful heels. Probs not the most practical but it can really elevate the look and is a good start if you are afraid of adding color to your wardrobe.
- Try colorful bags.
A purse can really make or break an outfit. I’m not saying to go and buy a hot pink $100,000 Birkin bag or a Chanel, but you can go to Zara, Guess, or HA Designs, which have amazing, much more affordable bags.
- Go with hair accessories
Hair accessories are in and we love them. 90s claw clips are back, new and improved. We have seen influencers like Matilda Dejerf wearing beautiful claw clips with an all neutral outfit. You can get beautiful hair accessories from stores like Revolve, Garage, Etsy, Amazon or my fave, Emi Jay.
