I have always loved fashion. I think that is obvious. My passion for fashion comes from entertainment, pop culture, and TV shows and movies. Here’s my rundown on the top 10 shows to watch if you love fashion. I tried to pick some that were not very well known so that you can get actual new recommendations. These are all shows I have watched or heard really good things about.
Let’s get started.
Jane by Design
This show is so underrated. I remember having an interest in this show when I was scrolling through the ABC Family/Spark channel. It follows Jane, a high school student who is doing a Co-op (interning, basically, as a part of your highschool requirements) at a fashion brand to help her and her brother financially. She is also interested in working so she can try to get a scholarship to Parsons School of Design in NYC. She has to balance life as a regular 16-year-old girl going to school, and working for a pristine high fashion brand. She is pretending to be much older than she actually is. During her interview for the internship the role positions get flipped and she is interviewed for the job as executive assistant. When the boss mentions the pay she goes along with it and doesn’t give that opportunity up.
As the show’s description says on Google: “Jane Quimby, a teenager, bags the job of an assistant of fashion executive Gray Murray. Gray thinks she is an adult and offers her the job. Will she be able to maintain the secret?”
I really think you guys will love this show.
The Carrie Diaries
This show is the teenage verison of Sex and the City. It follows a teenage Carrie Bradshaw in the 80s. She is a highschool student who is also pretending to be an adult and working in Manhattan, NYC after an interview her Dad set up for her. She is shopping at a department store when she meets a new friend who works at a fashion magazine. She has to carry the weight of interning at a law firm, going to high school, and going to cool NYC fashion parties with her new friend. She must choose the path she wants to take.
If you love NYC, fashion magazines, 80s fashion and teen drama, this is for you!
The Hills
The Hills is one of my favorite shows! This is the spin-off of Laguna Beach — a teenage real-life version of the OC, with actual teenagers, and one of the first reality TV shows.
It’s not a fashion show exactly, but they have amazing 2000s fashion, and occasionally they go to or put on fashion shows. The Hills follows the real life life of Lauren Conrad, the soon-to-be millionaire and fashion mogul, and how she got there. Lauren leaves her town in Laguna Beach, California and moves to LA to work at Teen Vogue magazine. A DREAM! This show is about friendship, fashion, drama, and what she gets up to with her friends in LA. You will see many famous designers and celebrities in this show!
The City
The City is the spin-off of The Hills, following Lauren Conrad’s co-worker and friend, Whitney Port, as she leaves her LA Teen Vogue job and goes to work in NYC for fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg. She meets many new friends along the way and works with Olivia Polmo, who is labeled as the real-life Blair Waldorf!
Here is the Google description: “Following the experiences of Whitney Port as she moves from Los Angeles to New York to kick off her career in fashion. She will see how hard it is to make it in the fashion industry and how hard life can be in the big city”
Great show!
Girl Boss
This Netflix Original show is about Sophia Amoruso, who is the founder of the fashion company Nasty Gal. Played by Britt Robertson, it shows how the brand Nasty Gal was formed and the struggles she had to face before it became a multimillion dollar company. I am about to read the book and I can’t wait!
The Google description says: “Inspired by Sophia Amoruso’s best-selling book, this series follows the rise of Amoruso’s multi-million dollar fashion empire, Nasty Gal. Britt Robertson plays the starring role of Sophia, a rebellious, broke anarchist who decides to start selling vintage clothing online. As her passion — and retail fashion empire — begins to grow, Sophia unexpectedly becomes a businesswoman, who starts to realize the value (and difficulties) of being the boss of her own life. Alongside the likes of Charlize Theron and Kay Cannon, Sophia Amoruso serves as an executive producer.”
Bling Empire
I was obsessed with this new Netflix show when I watched it earlier this year. I am patiently waiting for Season 2.
Bling Empire is described by Google as: “Wildly wealthy Asian and Asian American fun seekers go all out with parties, glamour and drama in Los Angeles.”
High fashion couture and drama is so much fun. Love this show!
Gossip Girl and Gossip Girl reboot
If you have been reading my blog for a while, you will know that I am a huge fan of Gossip Girl. I have already uploaded 2 gossip girl blogs — a general one that you can read HERE, and my fashion Gossip Girl blog HERE.
If you haven’t watched this show yet, you really need to.
Making the Cut
This Amazon Prime original show is about making clothes and how much time it takes to build a beautiful piece of fashion. Hosted by Heidi Klum and Tim Gunn, 12 designers face off for a chance to win $1 million dollars to start their own business, a mentorship, and a chance to co-brand a collection with Amazon Fashion!
Bethany Mota AwesomenessTV Make Me Over
This was my favorite thing to watch when I was younger. It’s all available for free on YouTube and it shows Bethany Mota (YouTube beauty ICON!) making over teenagers who want a little confidence boost. The fashion is kind of dated since this show is from 9 years ago, but the nostalgia is real! If you are ever bored and looking for something different to watch, watch this short show!
I hope this gives some inspiration on what shows to watch next! Some of these shows were short-lived and don’t have many seasons, so they’re perfect for your busy schedule!
Make sure to Google what streaming service you can watch these shows on, depending on where you live.
I think these shows are all great. Let me know if you watch any!
Sincerely,
Sadie
