Hey everyone! I have kind of been MIA on TTB and on my instagram for many different reasons. The start of 2022 was very rough. I have dealt with a lot but also have learned so much. I know everyone has such high expectations at the new year but sometimes our mood boards, goal-setting and resets can’t always predict what will be thrown at us. I believe that everything happens for a reason and that you can grow from each challenge you face. I’ve written this blog post to talk about what I learned and to give you some encouragement if you’ve had a rough few weeks.
For all of us, this pandemic has been a messy time. We all have our own stuff we are dealing with and I think if we continue to stay positive and grateful, even when times are crap, we can shift our perspective.
This period of time has taught me 3 main things:
Stay in the present.
Another way to say that is to not “waste the time you have, waiting for time to pass” (that’s a lyric from one of my favorite FINNEAS songs). I was so worried about the future that in the days when life wasn’t too bad I didn’t enjoy them. I have been reading The Power of Now and it has so much knowledge and insight.
Try to find moments of joy and light during dark times.
If you have just one moment of happiness in a day you can find little things to be grateful for in that one moment or activity. For example: I made myself a nice yogurt breakfast bowl filled with blueberries, raspberries, goji berries topped with my homemade granola. (LMK if you want a recipe!) I was sitting eating this amazing breakfast and got a little moment of pure happiness and gratitude. I always say, make sure you have one or more things you are looking forward to in the day. I have started using my 5-Minute Journal again. During this trying time, I set aside five minutes to journal three things I’m grateful for, affirmations, and three intentions for the day. One day, for my three intentions, I wrote: 1) find something in the day where I can feel inspired, 2) watch a new show, and 3) go for a walk. Setting these intentions can help boost your mood.
Be hopeful and optimistic.
I know I said to stay in the present, but every day I would brainstorm and think of something in the future that will bring me joy. This is silly but something that was making me excited and hopeful was a Sephora trip when things settled down. I truly find joy in researching, and during times when your creative outlet is YouTube and social media as a form of escapism, you find new things, products or habits that make you excited for life.
As a pop culture lover I had to share with you my recent entertainment recommendations. I have been BINGING Ugly Betty, Ted Lasso and I recently just started watching The After Party. Ugly Betty is so so good and I know that my readers here at TrustTalkBeauty would love this show. Also, have you guys seen The Tinder Swindler??? It is such an amazing documentary on Netflix. I watched it twice on the same day. If you have seen it, let me know in the comments!! I also had a Twilight binge marathon. I needed to see what all the hype was about because when I was younger being Team Edward or Team Jacob was all the rage. The other shows I have been following are US Celebrity Big Brother, and The Bachelor. I love reality TV.
Before I sign off, I wanted to share a music playlist that I made which is filled with good vibes. The theme of this playlist is hope and joy. I have some songs that make you dance and some realistic songs about growth.
