I have been having “pamper nights” since I was young. I was always into pretending I was at the spa, and that evolved into spa days doing my nails and having foot baths. It’s a pretty strange thing for a 6 year old to want a foot bath after school while watching Hannah Montana! In 2014/2015, I loved watching Anastasia Kingsnorth (aka Floral Princess), Zoella, Tanya Burr and Quisha Rose show their pamper night routines. I remember lighting fake candles and having a bubble bath using a bath bomb from Lush. I think I was about 9. So I’ve had years of experience pampering myself lol.
Here are my tips on how to have a perfect at-home self care night.
Get everything out of the way first.
Wanting to have a self care night but still having things hanging over your head isn’t the vibe. I highly recommend getting everything done that is stressing you out before you start. Do your homework, clean your room, do your chores – whatever it is, make sure you get it done beforehand.
Having nights like these is perfect to regenerate and relax. Especially in times like these, you need to prioritize what works for you. I think self care isn’t just about putting lotion on your face and drinking tea. It’s also about how we talk to ourselves and the situations we put ourselves in. Don’t be so hard on yourself and always think of brighter days. Know that you are special and unique. You’ve got the story of your life so far…AND the rest is still unwritten. (Unwritten by Natasha Beddingfeild was my top song of 2021 and I still have that message in my head.)
Put away your devices.
To start, put your phone away and change into your most chic lounge set.
My phone carries so much anxiety and stress, so I love to put it all away. One of the best things I have done for myself is limit my social media and phone use. Afterwards, I change into a lounge set. I prefer a nice knit set for relaxing. A few of my faves come from Aritzia, Guess, Garage, and Misguided. You can get really nice sets for an affordable price. Victoria Secret and Revolve have really nice pajamas.
Normally, I take off my makeup and apply a face mask. (I know that for some people, putting on makeup can be very relaxing so you do you!)
After a face mask I like to put some essential oils in my diffuser, preferably lavender, and while it’s diffusing I play my fave music and take a shower.
After the shower, I like to light a candle and paint my nails! Nice light pink gel nails are so chic. While I’m painting my nails I usually watch a TV show or movie. On self care nights I play a comedy movie or TV show so the vibes are positive.
What to eat and drink
If you’re hungry or need a nice drink, here are my recommendations:
For food on the ultimate self care day/night, I would not limit myself to anything. It could be anything from pasta, plant-based food, pizza, chocolate croissants, veggies, anything I am feeling.
For a drink I love to have blueberry or peach kombucha in a wine glass with frozen fruit added. Like a mocktail! Such a nice treat. Drinking that while flipping through a magazine is perfect.
Movie night!
After all those activities, I think laying on the couch and watching YouTube, Netflix or Disney+ really ends off the night perfectly. If you need some movie recs you can read my “Movies You Haven’t Seen but Need to” blog HERE. If you need TV show recs click HERE.
End the night off with gratitude and a good book.
Either on paper (I have a journal beside my bed) or just in my head, I like to think about all the things I’m grateful for. After you do this and you get into bed with a positive mindset you feel really good. Then I love to read for a while (that’s not just on pamper nights, but every night).. Right now I am reading It Ends With Us. I was influenced by BookTok. If you want tips on how to get more into reading and/or are looking for a few book recommendations, you can check out my blog post HERE.
