The Phenomenon of Gossip Girl – Then and Now
Gossip Girl here, your one and only source into the scandalous lives of Manhattan's elite... And who am I? That's one secret I'll never tell. You know you love me. XOXO, GG” In honour of the New Gossip girl reboot on HBO Max and Crave (if you’re Canadian like me), I wanted to bring awareness to the cultural reset that was and is Gossip Girl. In this blog I will not be sharing the fashion in Gossip Girl due to the fact I will soon be doing a whole separate blog dedicated to that. I am currently writing this blog while listening to the GG soundtrack to get some inspo about the 2007 major hit that is/was “Gossip Girl.”

Magazine Spread Current Must Haves

I have been very inspired lately by magazine spreads. In the British Vogue July 2022 issue, Olivia Dejonge from the Elvis movie displays her current obsessions. She talks about her recent music finds like Fleetwood Mac and Tame Impala, her fashion inspiration being 90s Kate Moss, her go-to read, and her favorite fragrance. So I thought it would be fun to create a prototype magazine spread of all the music, makeup, clothing, books, and other products I have been loving for the autumn and winter season. Maybe some of these will find their way onto your holiday wish list, or you’ll want to gift them to a friend.

Current Fragrance: My GO-TO fragrance for the last couple of months has been COCO Mademoiselle from Chanel. I bought it on my birthday and have used it almost every day. The bottle is so pretty and is really nice on display.

Makeup Go-to’s: I have talked about how I like to use mostly clean makeup. I am so glad Sephora has some great options. Growing up, I only used clean makeup products so I was limited to very specific brands. I found that Patrick Ta is such an amazing brand that has a list of ingredients it won’t include! This palette is so luxurious and lasts for a long time. I also have been using the ILIA lip oil. I was using this brand before it was even at Sephora. When I was young, my first lipstick was a hot pink crayon from ILIA. I like this lip oil because it lasts a long time, hydrates my lips, and is not sticky. For a pop of color, I like to use the Rare Beauty souffle matte cream in Heroic. It’s a true berry shade that I feel really adds brightness to the makeup look.

Music Finds: This summer I went away on a lot of mini staycations that involved car rides. I was finding albums from artists I love that I hadn’t necessarily listened to all the way through before,  and started listening to them in order from start to finish. Listening to full albums has really made me view music as a whole body of work that tells a story. A couple of weeks ago Taylor Swift released her 10th studio album Midnights (in case you didn’t know LOL). I had been looking forward to this album since she first announced it and it did NOT disappoint. At midnight on October 21st, I was at my computer listening and feeling all the feelings. This album has been on repeat for weeks. Absolutely love every single song!

I really enjoy listening to alternative music. I’ve found bands whose sound and lyricism I really like. One of those bands is Wallows. I have been listening to their discography and watching their live performances on YouTube. My current repeat songs are Are You Bored Yet, OK, and Hard To Believe

I am really in my pop music genre era and have been listening to Sabrina Carpenter’s newest album Emails I Can’t Send a lot. Already Over Is such a great song with some cool production elements. I recently bought the CD which will make me like it even more.

I also just bought the Folklore vinyl from Taylor Swift. It’s one of my favorite albums.

Labrinth is a singer-songwriter who has some amazing songs. You might know him from the Euphoria soundtrack and as the Euphoria music producer. His two singles Beneath Your Beautiful and Jealous have some amazing melodic elements and they are both so nice. I am a huge fan of Dancing with the Stars, and many years ago, Derek Hough performed a dance with his partner Kelly Pickler to Beneath your Beautiful. I have loved the song ever since.

Current Reads: Sara Bareilles is one of my favorite artists and when I found out she had a book, I had to get it! I have just finished reading Sounds Like Me and loved it! She is a great songwriter and her book writing is just as clear and honest as her lyricism. Gravity is one of my all-time favorite songs and learning the story behind it was so interesting. I have also been learning so much from the book The Universe Has Your Back by Gabrielle Bernstein. I have already seen such a positive shift in my mindset from reading this.

Outfit Staple: Over-the-shoulder tops and sweaters are making a comeback and I have been so excited about this modern-day revamp of an old style. I have seen off-the-shoulder tops all over different stores and I feel like they are just so classic and put together. I like to pair a tan camel coat overtop to add warmth.

My Sony DVD/CD player is one of my most prized possessions. I have had this DVD player since I was 4 years old and I have started so many shows on DVD on this machine. I recently got a CD player in my room and have been loving buying CDs and playing music in CD form. The first CD I ever bought was the Highschool Musical 2 soundtrack in 2007 LOL.

I hope you enjoyed this blog post! I have loved magazine spreads forever so it was so much fun to make one. If YOU want to make one with your recent must-haves or holiday wish list, tag me on TikTok or Instagram @ trusttalkbeauty. I would LOVE to see all the creations! I will repost on my story.

See you for my next blog! Make sure you leave me a comment Thank you for reading!

Sincerely,

Sadie
