The Phenomenon of Gossip Girl – Then and Now
Gossip Girl here, your one and only source into the scandalous lives of Manhattan's elite... And who am I? That's one secret I'll never tell. You know you love me. XOXO, GG” In honour of the New Gossip girl reboot on HBO Max and Crave (if you’re Canadian like me), I wanted to bring awareness to the cultural reset that was and is Gossip Girl. In this blog I will not be sharing the fashion in Gossip Girl due to the fact I will soon be doing a whole separate blog dedicated to that. I am currently writing this blog while listening to the GG soundtrack to get some inspo about the 2007 major hit that is/was “Gossip Girl.”

Post Malone F-1 Trillion Album Review

Post Malone’s newest country project, F-1 Trillion, is a genre switch from his previous work.

Paying homage to country stars of today with almost every track featuring a top artist in country music, this new path for Post Malone has already received a lot of buzz and commercial success.

Switching genres for this project with the features is a good way to guarantee country audiences will listen because of the featured artists’ loyal fan bases.

Every single so far has done extremely well commercially, but the most notable is the second single, “I Had some Help,” featuring Morgan Wallen. It has spent many weeks at the top of the charts and has millions of streams.

This album is a collaborative project with the top contenders in country music, both singers and songwriters. The collaboration aspect almost feels respectful, like saying to these country artists, “Don’t worry, I’m not taking your job,” by entering this genre.

There are 18 songs on this album, and all but three feature another artist. Tim McGraw, Chris Stapleton, Dolly Parton, and Luke Combs are just a few of the major country artists who have teamed up with Post for this record.

The first two songs have very strong country instrumentals and choruses, which are classic to this genre. Country music is notable for its storytelling aspect, which paints a picture for the listener and ties everything back together in the song’s structure.

The first track features Tim McGraw. This feature is different from his previous songs and definitely leans into a new direction for him. Its production is an edgier country, which is different from songs such as “Live Like You Are Dying” or “Don’t Take the Girl.”

Many of the featured artists on this album have songwriting credits in the songs that they are not singing on. For example, Lainy Willson and Brad Paisley are noted songwriters on the song which features Dolly Parton.

Notable songwriters for this project include Post Malone himself, Ernst Smith, Ashley Gorley, and Louis Bell. Ashley Gorley is a country music songwriting legend who has written some of the biggest country songs in recent history. Louis Bell is a frequent collaborator with Post Malone and has worked on many, if not all, of his most popular songs, like “Better Now,” “Congratulations,” and “Circles,” so it’s not surprising they would collaborate on this project.

“What Don’t Belong To Me” is a reflective solo track about his past, present, and relationships.

The two Luke Combs features are very different. “Guy For That”  is an upbeat song with drums, while “Missin’ You Like This” is a breakup song with strings and guitar.

“Missin’ You Like This” is definitely my favorite from this album.

“Losers,” featuring Jelly Roll, is a reclaiming track with an underlying positive message despite the lyrics about feeling like a Loser. It’s more like a song of unity.

The closing track of “Yours” is a very sweet song and a great ending to this album. I can imagine the country and non-country Dads loving this song. It would be a perfect father-daughter dance song for a wedding. It fits perfectly for a country record.

Overall, this is a very strong country album. The songs would be great played live at a music festival or any summer concert. Country audiences and fans will probably love this album. Ride-or-die fans will likely really like it, too, although fans of his previous work might not consider this their number one. Personally, I don’t know how much I’m going to listen to the whole album front to back, but there are many songs that I enjoy listening to.

Overall, most of the songs in F-1 Trillion are very strong, and with such a great line-up of features, each track feels like it could be a single. I think a Carrie Underwood, Zach Byran, or Bailey Zimmerman feature would also be great for this album. Maybe in a deluxe version?

What are your thoughts?

xx
