I really feel like establishing a routine as a teenager is important. This may include an energy boosting morning routine, night routine, or your average skincare routine. I don’t know if this is just me but since I was 10 I found the whole idea of a morning routine to be a very crucial part in my life. Without everyday routines I feel like my life is chaotic. (You will find that I can be a bit of a drama queen sometimes. LOL.)
When I was 8 I would pick YouTubers and copy the morning routines they had set up. I would spend hours watching these videos! I also asked my friends to write down their routines so I could learn from them. I thought it was the coolest thing.
I think routines are important to establish as a teen so we can build the structure and discipline that can help us when we join the workforce or whatever other responsibilities come our way. If life gets to be a little much, following a routine can feel as though you have some control and structure in your day.
My morning routine is simple but I look forward to it:
Wake up at around the same time every day (props to you if you get up early… I’m… working on it.)
BEFORE I check my phone I do my morning readings with a gratitude journal and devotionals. I use the The Five-Minute-Journal and write down 3 things I’m grateful for, 3 things that will make my day great and set affirmations. I then do my morning devotions. If you aren’t faith oriented, don’t worry! Establish a part in your routine that fits your life and values. At the moment I am reading the “Grace Is Enough Devotional.”
I then either do meditation or pray, whatever I am feeling. Sometimes I do both. I try to do this every day to gain more clarity in my day.
I then put on a playlist. I have been loving my summer playlist for 2021 or my late 2000s playlist which is just filled with bops from when I was in elementary school.
Next, I always make my bed. Making your bed is so important so you can feel productive right as you wake up!
Your morning routine doesn’t have to be complicated but make one so you can’t wait to get up in the morning and shape your day. Your morning affects your whole day, believe it or not, making your morning enjoyable and fun.
Night routines are important but I feel that as long as you’re not consuming TikTok, social media and negative vibes before you sleep, you will be okay. (“Doom scrolling” gets the best of us sometimes. Such a vicious cycle.)
As part of my night routine, right before I go to bed, I read and fill out the night time portion of my Five-Minute Journal. I also write a to-do list so I can feel like I have my next day planned. Right now I am reading Kris Jenner’s memoir. You will find as you read more of my blogs that I love pop culture.
As much as I know it’s hard not to look at screens either first thing in the morning or before bed, it is so important to let your mind have a rest from all of the toxicity on social media. From personal experience, one social media post I see at the end or beginning of the day can send me into a mind funk, which can then lead to a rough start or even throw off the whole vibe of the day.
As we grow older and have to be at a job, school or other responsibilities, we should want to make our best effort to make our day great with a routine.
