The summer is the perfect time to really dive into a book. The weather is amazing, the sun is shining, and the views of sun rays projecting off the water are always a plus. Today I’m going to be sharing with you some light reads to incorporate into your summer TBR. I have categorized the reads into 3 categories; rom-coms, autobiographies, and general fiction. I’m always looking for book recommendations so let me know if you have any must-read books for the summer season <3
Rom-coms:
People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry. I loved the writing in this book. It was a really easy read with a feel-good aspect that was enjoyable to read during the summer. A light-hearted rom-com.
Beach Read by Emily Henry. Obvious from its title, this is a great book to dive into during the summer. I especially enjoyed the beginning of this book and all the pop culture references.
The UnHoneymooners by Christina Lauren: This rom-com is set in Hawaii and I read it on a beach so the vibes were perfect. I loved the twists and turns this book took the reader through and I also really liked the author’s fun writing style.
Funny You Should Ask by Ellissa Susman. Well written with a great storyline that felt realistic, but also glamorous. I loved that the main character is a journalist – highly recommended if you love celebrity culture and journalism. I also loved the pop culture references, including one of my fave movies, Empire Records.
Every Summer After by Carley Fortune &
Love and Other Words by Christina Lauren—- These two books have similar plots and I enjoyed reading them but looking back, it felt like I was re-reading the same book. Overall I recommend them both but maybe don’t read them back to back lol.
The Summer I Turned Pretty by Jenny Han: These books are highly, highly popular but the vibes are so summery and amazing. You really can dive into the characters. I read the books first before I saw the TV show, and it really helped me connect to the characters even more.
General Fiction :
Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid: This book was so intriguing. The interview style format was so interesting and easy to keep up with. Unpopular opinion I loved the book more than the TV Show.
Looking for Alaska by John Green: There is a reason this book was labeled one of the best debut novels ever. This book is terrific. I instantly couldn’t put it down. Now, I wouldn’t recommend this book to be a beach read because it touches on heavy topics and is very sad at some moments. This easily has to be one of the best books I have ever read and I highly recommend it.
Autobiography & Non-Fiction:
Just Kids by Patti Smith: This book is perfect for anyone on a creative path. She shares her stories and brings you through her creative life during the 60s and 70s. She has some amazing quotes in here as well: “I have lived for art; I have lived for love.”
Sounds Like Me by Sara Bareilles. Sara is one of my favorite singer-songwriters so when I found out she had a book, I had to read. She goes through her life and tells the story of how some of her most famous songs came to be. If you are a music lover, I highly recommend it.
Love is a Mix Tape by Rob Sheffield: This book is so bittersweet. I absolutely love the way he talks about the people in his life. Warning: this book gets really sad but is written in such a beautiful way.
Some of the summer books I’m planning on reading are Happy Place by Emily Henry, Meet Me at the Lake by Carley Fortune, Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid, Summer of Broken Rules by K.L Whalther, and more!
Thank you for reading! I’m so excited to read more this summer. Feel free to email me or comment below with some of your summer book recs <3
Sincerely,
Sadie
